As we celebrate the 102nd birthday of Mary Kay Ash this week, what’s the best way to honor her but to look back into my journey and share the top 5 favorite Mary Kay quotes that I play in my mind whenever I am facing tough times in this business. 

Yes, Direct Selling is a great avenue for people who wants to be in control of their income and it offers a fabulous opportunity to build a business of your own without the need for a huge capital.

However, it is not a bed of roses. Like all other businesses, there are challenges to face in order to reach the peak of your success. For the most part, they are personal challenges. Your belief system, your determination to push forward & upward and your tenacity to bounce back when you fall. 

I hope these kind words can lift you up when you need them. 

 

1. Expect great things, and great things will happen

When you set high expectations of yourself, you are also setting a high standard for yourself. Set your mind to succeed, believe that you have everything you need to achieve great things and that “everything” is within you. You just need to dig deeper into your personal “why” to unleash that creative power. 

 

2. God didn’t have time to make a nobody, only a somebody.

Look at the people who have already made it big in this business. What are they doing? What are they selling and what are they saying? You selling the same brand? Doing the same thing? Are you walking the same talk? 

Think about this, we are all selling the same product, we are all following the same marketing plan, we are saying the same thing, and finally, we are all praying to the same God. If it was given to those who have already received it, why not you? 

 

3. Do what you should do when you need to do them so someday, you can do what you want to do, when you want to do them.

In 2006, while I was in deep financial struggle, I was invited to join Mary Kay, and what struck me the most is when my sharing person told me ” Whatever your financial status now is the result of your decision 6 months ago or 1 – 3 years ago. But whatever your financial status 6 months from now will be based on your decision today”. I am glad I listened to her.

In exactly 6 months from the time I joined, I was recognized on Stage as a Sales Director. 1 year from the time I said “yes” to her, I was driving my very first car (which comes with a good problem of I don’t have a parking slot). 10 years after, I am a full-time business-woman who has traveled to more than 20 countries. 

And now amidst the Pandemic, I am even more grateful I did what I did 13 years ago.

4. You can do anything in this world that you want to do…if you want to do it badly enough and you are willing to pay the price.

There is no such thing as a “free lunch”. Remember, everything worth having for is worth working for. None of the Top Sales Director traveled for free or earned a six-digit income sitting at home and watching Netflix for 3 hours a day. We work overtime when we need to and we rest with our family when we want to. We don’t stop when we are tired, we stop when we are satisfied. 

 

5. Aerodynamically, the bumble bee shouldn’t be able to fly, but the bumble bee doesn’t know it so it goes on flying anyway.

Even the Scientists said that bumble-bees cannot fly because the proportion of its body to its wings are not equal. Yet the humble bumblebee flies steadily. It doesn’t care what the Scientist says, the bumblebee just does it. Like everyone else with wings, it flaps its own. Be like a bumblebee. Do not listen to the negative people around you and the negative voice inside you. Spread your wings and slowly jump and give it a try. If it fails the first time, try again, and again and again until you have mastered all the wrong moves that you will only do the right ones. 

I have always been a positive person. But of course, even the positive bee can be at the tired at times and these quotes are very handy.

Remember, believe in yourself; believe in your purpose and believe that you have the power to achieve great things, and that power is in you!

As Mary Kay said “If you think you can, then you can! If you think you can’t then you are right.”
